Vedha (tamil Music Director) Biography

Vedha was a Tamil music director associated with Tamil cinema in the 1950s and 1960s. He owns many hit film albums to his credit. He composed songs for many movies produced by Modern Theatres, followed by Ceylon Theatres, P. S. V. Pictures etc. He used to adapt popular Hindi songs for Tamil movies, for instance, songs for Woh Kaun Thi’ for its Tamil remake, Yaar Nee? He composed songs for around 40 musical albums in his entire career.

 

His real name is S. S. Vedhasalam. He started his musical journey as an assistant of leading music composers in the 1950s. He composed songs for 1955 film Menaka along with T. G. Lingappa and C. N. Pandurangan. Initially he worked for Ceylon Theatres, followed by Modern Theatres with which he had a long-term association. As a full-fledged music composer, his first movie was Marma Veeran (1956). The song Thudikkum Vaalibame recorded in the voice of R. Balasaraswathi Devi became an instant hit. The singer too, who was most associated with lullabies till then, was loved by music lovers for the romantic rendition of the song.

 

It was followed by Manamalai’s hit duet, Nadakkaadhu Jambam Palikkadhu, recorded in the voice of his favourite playback singers, T. M. Soundararajan and P. Susheela. Later he composed songs for Anbu Enge,  Vallavanukku Vallavan, Vallavan Oruvan etc. He also gave many memorable songs to L. R. Eswari during her singing career. For 1966 mystery thriller - Yaar Nee, he re-used all songs originally composed by Madan Mohan for its original version, ‘Woh Kaun Thi’. In fact he kept a few musical bits as such, for "Naane Varuven" in Lata Mangeshkar’s voice itself.
