Vedanth Bharadwaj Biography

Vedanth Bharadwaj is a vocalist and composer from Tamil Nadu. He belonged to Tamil family of Tirunelveli, but was born and brought up in Mumbai. He moved with his family to Chennai in 1987 during his childhood, where he got settled. Vedanth also works as a playback singer in Tamil cinema. He is a qualified guitarist from the Trinity College London. As a composer, he is best known for the work with songs and poems from the Bhakti Movement. Vedanth has set up his studio in Chennai. He along with Bindhu Malini composed the songs of highly acclaimed Aruvi in 2017, and also rendered his voice for the songs, Baby Track (Kukkotti Kunaatti) and Hope (Merku Karaiyil) belonging to the same album.

 

Vedanth Bharadhwaj was born on 1 October 1980 in Mumbai, to Tamil parents of Tirunelveli origin. He started formal training in Carnatic music at the age of 4, under the guru Sri Neyveli Santhanagopalan. He practised under this leading musician for long 10 years. He also studied under Sri Narayana Iyengar for about three years. His formal training was stopped when he moved to a boarding school, Rishi Valley School. It was during his days at school, when he got introduced to western music and guitar. His roommate Ananth Menon taught him initial lessons of guitar, with whom he frequently collaborated in future.

 

Vedanth formed a band called Buddha’s Babies after returning to Chennai. He also restarted training in classical music with Ramamoorthy Rao, under whom he is studying till now. He also learnt music therapy, and taught children. As a composer, he started off with jingles in the 1990s. He collaborated with his schoolmate Ananth Menon and another composer and friend SK Balachandran, whom he called Balu, and they together composed songs for Telugu film Brahmastram in 2006. He also earned success through private albums like Mati Kahe and Suno Bhai.
