V. K. Prasanth Biography

V. K. Prasanth is an Indian politician and legislator from the state of Kerala. A member of Communist Party of India (Marxist), he serves as the Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly for Vattiyoorkavu state constituency since 24 October 2019. Formerly he served as the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, during the period, 19 November 2015 – 24 October 2019. He got elected to state legislative assembly following a by-election conducted in Vattiyoorkavu in 2019. Sitting MLA K. Muraleedharan belonging to Indian National Congress was elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2019 Indian general election, after which the seat became vacant.

V. K. Prasanth hails from Kazhakootam, Thiruvananthapuram. He got into politics at a young age, and was elected to the Kazhakoottam ward in 2015 at the age of 34. He won the elections with a margin of 3,272 votes, the highest majority secured by a candidate in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation’s history. Very soon he was elected as the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram city. Till now he is the youngest Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, and he assumed power at the age of 34 only.

In 2019 Kerala legislative assembly by-election, he was fielded by LDF at Vattiyoorkavu constituency. He defeated Congress candidate K. Mohankumar, but a huge margin of about 10K votes. CPI (M) also saw a rise in percentage of votes in by-election. He hails from Kazhakootam without any political background. For the same reason he didn’t get initial support from family for his political journey. He got into active politics during PDC while studying at St. Xavier’s college, Thumba. He was born as the son of S. Krishnan and Vasanta. His wife’s name is Raji, and has one lovely daughter, Alia.
