Upendra Kushwaha Biography

Upendra Kushwaha is an Indian Politician, Parliamentarian and former union minister who served as Minister of State for Human Resource Development, during the period 26 May 2014 – 10 December 2018 under Narendra Modi’s cabinet. He is the founder chairperson of Rashtriya Lok Samata Party since its inception in 2013, and has been into an alliance with BJP for the previous Lok Sabha elections and state assembly elections in Bihar. However he broke alliance with BJP and expressed dissatisfaction with Modi and Amit Shah for the unfulfilled promises. They had a fallout in the discussion over the number of seats to be shared by both parties in Bihar during 2019 General elections. Breaking alliance with BJP in December 2018, the party formed alliance with Congress led UPA.

 

Upendra Kushwaha hails from Javaj, Bihar. He was born on 6 February 1960. His active political journey began at age 25+, and since then he has been associated with different political affiliations at different points of time. Initially he was associated with Janata Dal. He marked his political beginning after got elected as state General-Secretary in Yuva Lok Dal in 1985, a position he served for next 4 years. Then he was appointed as National General-Secretary, Yuva Janata Dal in 1988, a position he served for next 5 years.

 

In 1994 he joined Samata Party, and got elected to state assembly as an MLA for the first time in year 2000. He was the co-founder of Rashtriya Samta Party in 2009. Four years later it was launched once again as Rashtriya Lok Samta Party, and has won many state assembly seats, apart from three seats which it contested in Lok Sabha elections 2014, in alliance with Narendra Modi led NDA.
