Tomazinho Cardozo Biography

Tomazinho Cardozo is a veteran theatre artist from the state of Goa, also known as a popular figure in tiatr stage in Goa. He owns the tiatr ‘Kala Mogi -Candolim’ and has been regular with his plays. He is also an educationist and politician from Goa, and has served as the speaker of Goa Assembly during 1995 - 1999. He is a politician associated with Indian National Congress. He is a mentor of writers in Roman-script Konkani, and is associated with Dalgado Konknni Akademi and the Tiatr Academy of Goa. He is a recipient of awards such as best sarpanch (1983), for teaching (2003), and literature (2009). He is also a teacher in profession.

Tomazinho Cardozo has been associated with so many professions such as teaching, politician, theatre, administration, literature etc. He taught maths and science at schools for so many years and also served as sarpanch of Candolim village for 22 years from 1977. He joined active politics in the mid-1990s when he got elected to Goa state assembly from the Calangute constituency in 1995. He also served as the speaker for a term of about 5 years.

His career as a theatre artist began in 1950s during his younger years. He entered the popular Konkani tiatr stage in 1957, and since then wrote and directed many plays in Konkani. Kanttech Kantte staged in 1980 was extremely successful. He founded the tiatr group Tiatr Mogi, and has been associated with Kandolechim Kirnam, Kala Mogi etc. His plays were regularly staged in All Goa Mando festivals winning many honours. He has also served as the president of the Tiatr Academy in 2009.
