Thomas Chandy Biography

Thomas Chandy is a politician from Kuttanad belonging to Indian National Congress who currently serves as the MLA representing the Kuttanad constituency. Chandi is also an NRI and a prominent businessman based in Kuwait. He is also Tourism Entrepreneur and CMD Lake Palace Resort Alappuzha. He has been elected to Kerala state assembly twice representing Indian National Congress – 2006 and 2011 and in both these elections he defeated his nearest rival Dr. KC Joseph KEC. Apart from politics and business, education and hospitality are his other fields of interest. He has been associated with a few allegations and scandals; the most noted being infamous Kiliroor sex scandal case, along with that of K P Mohanan. Both along with Mathew Philip were accused in a case of embezzlement of the funds of the Indian Community School.

He was born in Chenammkary on 29 August 1947 to V. C. Thomas and Aleyamma Thomas. He holds a diploma in Telecommunication Engineering from the Institute of Engineering Technology, Chennai. He started his political career while at college, as a student leader of KSU. He became the President of the KSU and Youth Congress in Kuttanad, in 1970. Then he got involved with business and re-entered politics only in the mid-1990s. He formed an alliance with DIC (K) to contest in state assembly elections 2006 as UDF candidate.

He is a social worker, equally active in Kerala and Kuwait. He is the Chairman of the United Indian School, Indian Public School and Indian Central School in Kuwait and also owns a school in Riyadh. He is the richest MLA of Kerala legislative assembly.
