T. P. Chandrasekharan Biography

T. P. Chandrasekharan was a local political leader of Revolutionary Marxist Party, a breakaway group of Communist Party of India (Marxist) from Kozhikode who was hacked to death on 4 May 2012. His political murder drew nationwide attention and received a lot of media coverage since then. It’s accused that Communist Party of India (Marxist) was behind his murder, as this local party leader has slowly started gaining popularity among the masses, and gaining foot in the political scenario in regional politics. He was survived by his wife K. K. Rema and a son.

 

T. P. Chandrasekharan was born on 2 July 1960 in village Onchiyam in Kozhikode district, Kerala. He got associated with Communist Party of India (Marxist) in his teens, and was became the branch secretary in Nellacery West Branch at the age of 18. He was the Unit Secretary of SFI in Madappally High School, at the time of Emergency, while he was studying at school. He was a follower of V S Achuthanandan, and was a local leader associated with party till 2008. The following year he formed a new political party, Revolutionary Marxist Party and gained recognition in local bodies and Panchayat. His party won local elections at his home panchayat in Onchiam and nearby villages.

 

51-year-old Chandrasekharan was attacked by assailants on 4 May 2012. He was riding on his motor cycle alone, and returning home after attending a wedding, when a group of people who came by a car attacked him. He was hacked to death with sharp weapons mainly focusing his face. His face was badly disfigured and he succumbed to injuries. He shot to national prominence after his death, for its cause of death. It was a politically motivated murder and Ramachandan, Manojan, and Kunhanandan were found guilty under Section 120. His wife Rema unsuccessfully contested state assembly elections in 2016.
