Swaroop Khan Biography

Swaroop Khan is a folk singer from Rajasthan who works in Bollywood also. He is best known for his outstanding performance as a folk artist in the singing reality show - Indian Idol 2010. He was one among the finalists of the 5th season of the reality show. As a playback singer, he has rendered his voice for songs belonging to folk genre in Bollywood. In 2010, he sang the title track of Emotional Atyachar. However his real break happened in the year 2014 through Rajkumar Hirani’s blockbuster PK, where he rendered his voice for the solo track - Tharki Chokro, the single composed by Ajay-Atul for the movie. The song had a Rajasthani feel. Most recently his voice was also heard in the popular and controversial song of Padmavat, Ghoomar aside Shreya Ghoshal.

 

Swaroop Khan was born on 6 August 1991 in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Trained in Rajasthani folk music, Swaroop Khan was a very popular contestant on a singing reality show Indian Idol and was very appreciated for his unique singing talent. He finished as a finalist of the show, and has rendered many folk songs such as Original version of Nimbooda throughout the show. He used to appear in traditional attire as participant of Indian Idol.

 

He received offer to sing for a Bollywood film through a small project, Emotional Atyachar. He got an opportunity to lend his voice to a track by ace composer Bappi Lahiri at the age of 19. He bagged his first big project in 2014 for the biggest blockbuster of the year, PK starring Aamir Khan and Sanjay Dutt. Hirani wanted a Rajasthani feel for a song and he felt Swaroop Khan would do complete justice with his Rajasthani folk music. Sanjay Dutt addresses Aamir Khan as Tharki chokro in the classic song with a very catchy tune.
