Shyama Charan Gupta Biography

Shyama Charan Gupta is an Indian politician and 2-times parliamentarian belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party. He is also an industrialist who hails from Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Currently he represents Allahabad constituency and marked a huge margin victory of 62009 votes over incumbent MP Rewati Raman Singh of the Samajwadi Party. He joined active politics in 1991 as a BJP candidate of Allahabad and lost his first parliament elections the same year. Prior to his entry in national politics he served as Mayor of Allahabad in 1989. In the 1990s he also associated with Samajwadi party and later switched to BJP.

 

He was born in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh in the year 1945. His wife Jamunotri Gupta is also active in politics and she serves as director of SBW Udyog Limited of Shyam Group since 1985. The couple has two sons and one daughter. Their son Vidup Agrahari is a noted singer and businessman who is associated with politics as well. Prior to his entry in politics, Shyama was an entrepreneur and businessman who established Shyama Group of companies in 1973. It is involved with beedi making and has also diversified plans in real estate. In the late 1980s, he became Mayor of Allahabad and entered active politics with the beginning of 1990s.

 

He contested Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 1991 from Allahabad. But he lost to Saroj Dubey of Janata Dal. In 1998 Lok Sabha elections, he unsuccessfully contested as Samajwadi Party candidate. He got elected to Lok Sabha for the first time in 2004 representing Samajwadi Party where he contested from Bandra. In 2009 general election he lost from Phulpur. He joined Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014 and got elected from Allahabad.
