Shubha Poonja Biography

Shubha Poonja is an Indian model and actress who works in south Indian languages. She predominantly works in Kannada movies and has also appeared in a few Tamil movies. She made her film debut through 2004 Tamil movie, Machi and later moved to Kannada film industry, through 2006 movie Jackpot playing lead role. Moggina Manasu in 2008 is one of her memorable roles which earned her Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Kannada language. She has been a successful model who won "Miss Chennai-Top Model 2003". Kanteerava, Chanda and Jackpot are the Kannada films in which Poonja played lead role.

She was born in Mangalore and brought up in Bangalore. She schooled at Carmel Convent School, Jayanagar in Bangalore. She started modelling at a younger age. She also appeared in television ads and shot to fame after winning "Miss Chennai-Top Model 2003" title. After winning this contest she entered Tamil film industry with the movie Machi released the following year. The director K. S. Vasanthakumar was impressed by her photos and that’s how she got her debut movie. It was followed by commercial failures, Thirudiya Idhayathai and Shanmuga and very soon she reached Kannada film industry to try her luck.

She was able to make a mark in Kannada film industry with a series of movies like Chanda, Anjadiru, Moggina Manasu and Slum Bala. She won a Filmfare award for best supporting role in Shashank’s Moggina Manasu. This movie was a blockbuster hit at box office too. In this youth oriented movie, she played parallel lead aside Radhika Pandit. Now a series of movies are waiting for release – Meenakshi, Chirayu, Artha, Kotigond Love Story and Samosa.
