Shridhar Tilve Biography

Shridhar Tilve is one of the most popular contemporary writers of Marathi literature. He is known as a philosopher, novelist, director, actor and playwright. He has also criticized many noted writers like Karl Marx, Dilip Chitre, Bhalchandra Nemade, Arun Kolatkar, Vilas Sarang etc. In 1993 he received the prestigious Keshavsut Award of Maharashtra government as a best young writer. He has been associated with theater and film industry and has received awards like Zee Gaurav Puraskar and Maharashtra Times Sanman for best story, dialogues and screenplays. His works include poetry, critique, stories and novels. He is also known as a director and playwright.

 

He was born to Shantaram - a shopkeeper, painter and classical singer and his wife, Nalini. His family belonged to temple priests of Rawalnath temple. They were politically active also. His maternal uncle Rohidas Naik actively participated in Goa Freedom Struggle and was an active politician who became the M L A of GOA Vidhansabha twice. The political background of both his paternal and maternal families has influenced young Shridhar Tilve a lot. Tilve serves a special position in the list of poets and critics of the post-cold war era of contemporary Marathi literature. At present he is a freelancer who works as a director and writer. He also owns his own production house, Srujan Films International.

 

He coined the term ‘Chouthi Navata’ to define the entire process of conversion of commodity to "semiodity" and initiated the movement as well. He believes in the construction of new India based on contemporary principles and ideas, rather than relying on the past ideologies. Ka Vee and Eka Bharatiya Vidyarthyache Udgar are his popular collection of poems.
