Shishir Shinde Biography

Shishir Shinde is a social worker and politician belonging to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Maharashtra. He started his political career through Shiv Sena. He later joined Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in 2006 when Sena Chief Bal Thackeray allegedly criticized him at a public meeting in connection with Thackeray's 79th birthday. Since 2009, he is an MLA and has also served as the member of Maharashtra Legislative Council in 1996-2002.

As a member of Shiv Sena party, he gained quick attention when Sivsainiks dug the pitch of Wankhede Stadium in 1991 under his leadership. It was done to stop a scheduled India-Pakistan test cricket match and for the same reason, the match was abandoned. Shinde shot to fame inside the party soon after this incident. Shinde has worked with Raj Thackeray, the founder and president of MNS, since 1985. At present he is a senior and experienced leader of Maharashtra NavNirman Sena.

Shinde belongs to Mulund East, Mumbai. He started his political career through Shiv Sena. Shishir also runs an Engineering workshop for his livelihood. Following the Wankhede Stadium pitch tampering incident, he became one of the popular young leaders of Shiv Sena. He became corporator in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in 1992 from Mulund and also became an MLA for the period, 1996-2002. Following the stress with Bal Thackeray after a public meeting, he resigned the party to join MNS in 2006.

As a social leader he has done a lot of things for his constituency, Mulund. his noted works include – starting of Aapli Aai and Hindavi Sahakar Sanstha and first musical jogging track in the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje Udyan in Mulund and his overall contributions to promote libraries in the same constituency. He was also actively involved with the relief and rehabilitation of earthquake victims in Latur and Gujarat.
