Shantanu Moitra Biography 
Shantanu Moitra is a Bengali music composer who works for Hindi films. His best works include Parineeta, Lage raho munna bhai, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and 3 Idiots. He has also composed music for classical singer Shubha Mudgal’s private albums – Aab ke sawan and Mann ke manjeere.
Though born in Lucknow, Shantanu Moitra’s ancestors are from Bengal. He belonged to a traditional musical family. He was the leader and singer of the band at school days and in 1982, the band made history by arranging their own rock show. He has also received musical training, from urban-folk singer, Sushmit Bose during his school days.
Yet, he started his career as a client servicing executive at an ad agency. Music was just his hobby during those days. It was just co-incidence that he created a jingle for Uncle chips for Pradeep Sarkar, Creative Head of the agency and the idea clicked. Then for Pradeep Sarkar, he created many more success jingles before landing to private albums of Shubha Mudgal.
Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi was his debut movie as a music director. From the first time itself, an association was formed with lyricist Swanand Kirkire and their successful association continued till 3 Idiots and many more. "Bawara Mann.." was the first song composed by Shantanu for Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. He composed a song for Chitra’s voice for Eklavya too and impressed by his work, Vidhu Vinod Chopra offered him Parineeta. Surprisingly, Shantanu Moitra has composed the songs of many successful movies of Vidya Balan including Parineeta and Lage raho munna bhai. Parineeta was directed by Pradeep Sarkar with whom he has associated for delivering ad jingles. Parineeta earned him a Filmfare nomination as well. He won the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for the songs of Parineeta. Songs like Piya bole sung by Shreya Goswal and Sonu Nigam were instant hit that time.
All songs of 3 Idiots – All is well, Zoobi zoobi and behthi hawa ka are still popular. His other works include – 7 ½ Phere, Pyaar Ki Dhun, Phir Kabhi, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Welcome to Sajjanpur,Wll done Abba, Inkar and Rajneethi. He has also composed for a Bengali movie, Antaheen and Malayalam movie, Ente as well.
