Sasikala Menon Biography

Sasikala Menon is a lyricist associated with Malayalam cinema. She is credited to be the female lyricist with maximum number of Malayalam songs. Sasikala Menon has written lyrics for the likes of G. Devarajan and Raveendran master. Yet faded from the film industry and moved towards devotional songs. In 2014, she penned lyrics for a Malayalam album - Strawberry Theyyam, composed by film composer Sharreth. Now she has started writing songs for movies – and Jilebi is her latest release. She also penned lyrics for Good Bad Ugly – composed by M. G. Sreekumar. Now she resides at nemon, Thiruvananthapuram busy with her new innings.

 

She penned lyrics for the first time for the movie – Sindooram at the age of 15 in 1976. Since young she used to write poems, stories and criticisms for child magazines. It was her father Govind Menon, who asked her to concentrate on to poems only. And it was her father who sent her poem collection to film director Dr. Balakrishnan, who was inviting fresh talents for his new film. The director was impressed by her work and gave her the offer to pen the lyrics for ‘Sindooram’. She was studying in class 10 then. The songs were composed by A. T. Ummer and the album also included the lyrics of Bharanikkavu Sivakumar and Satyan Antikad. She requested and asked the permission to write a Krishna devotional song - “Yadukula Madhava”.

 

She got her second offer from Vincent Master for Agninakshtram. He was impressed by her work of Sindooram. Nitya sahaya mathave – a Christian devotional song is one of the popular songs in this movie written by Sasikala. She penned lyrics for Devarajan’s Vayanaadan Thampan and Raveendran’s Thaarattu. Aalolam Poomutte is a memorable song. She got married to a politician while doing her final year graduation and she got busy with family life. But while living in Bangalore, she once again wrote poems – this time for devotional albums. In 2010, she released the album on Krishna devotional songs – Varna Vrindavanam.
