Sahana Bajpaie Biography

Sahana Bajpaie is a singer and song writer from West Bengal. She is associated with both Indian and Bangladeshi entertainment industry. She was formerly married to Shayan Chowdhury Arnob, a Bengali musician, singer-songwriter and composer. The duo has collaborated for numerous musical albums, and their pair remained successful in music arena. Among all genres of music, she is best associated with Rabindra Sangeet vocals, and has fans in both West Bengal and Bangladesh. She made her playback singing debut with Bengali fantasy film Tasher Desh in 2012.

 

Sahana Bajpaie was born in Santiniketan, West Bengal. Her parents were professors of political science at the University of North Bengal. Her father was inclined towards music, who gave the first musical lessons to Sahana at a very young age. Till year 2002 she lived in her hometown. She started learning music at the age of 6. Later she studied Hindustani music and Rabindra Sangeet vocals from some of the eminent musicians of Santiniketan, and later established herself as a leading name in this genre of music.

 

Following her parents footsteps she also took teaching job for a short while. She taught English at BRAC University in Dhaka for three years since 2003. For higher studies she moved to London and studied at SOAS, University of London. In 2007 she released her first collection of Rabindrasangeet Songs, Notun Kore Pabo Bole. The fresh take of this genre of music was accepted by music lovers of Bengal and Bangladesh. She released Rabindra Sangeet album Ja Bolo Tai Bolo in 2015 and Mon Bandhibi Kemone the following year. Now she is also a playback singer in Bengali cinema. Her songs are included in movies, Ek Je Chilo Raja, Kontho etc.
