Ranjeet Ranjan Biography

Ranjeet Ranjan is a politician and parliamentarian belonging to Indian National Congress. She got elected from Supaul constituency in 2014 general elections. She is one of the youngest MPs of Saharsa in North Bihar. Her husband Rajesh Ranjan, best known as Pappu Yadav is a popular politician, who currently serves as the leader of Jan Adhikar Party (L). A 5-time parliamentarian, Pappu Yadav is one of the most influential leaders from Bihar at present. She is also addressed as Ranjeeta Ranjan.

Ranjan was born in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh on 7 January 1974. Since her childhood, she has shifted into various states and has completed her studies in Kashmir and Punjab, and finally settled in Delhi. Her ancestors were Kashmiri Pandit turned Sikhs. She was an active lawn tennis player in the Bihar circuit during her college days. Once Pappu Yadav happened to see her in tennis court in 1993, he proposed her and the duo got married. Pappu converted to Sikhism before they got married. The couple has one son and one daughter.

She got active in politics soon after her marriage, and contested for the first time in the assembly elections in 1995 one year after marriage. She was only 21 then, and she lost the election. After this she was involved in Pappu Yadav's election campaign in 1999. In2004 she re-entered politics. In 2009 she and her husband got changed to Indian National Congress and she shifted to the nearby Supaul constituency. Though she contested in Lok Sabha elections in 2009, she lost to Vishwa Mohan Kumar of Janata Dal (United). But she got elected from the same seat in 2014 elections, defeating JD (U) rival Dileshwar Kamait by around 60,000 votes. It is her first term in parliament and one of the youngest MPs from Bihar too.
