Raman Singh Biography

Raman Singh is an Indian politician of Bharatiya Janata Party who is serving as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh since 7th December 2003. He was born on 15th October 1952 in Kawardha at Chhattisgarh. His wife is Veena Singh and has two children Abhishek Singh and Asmita Singh. He obtained degree in Ayurvedic Medicine. So he is also called as Doctor Raman Singh.

 

He joined Bharatiya Jan Sangh when he was a young man and later became its councilor. He stood in the Assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh in 1990 and 1993 and won both times. He won Lok Sabha seat from Rajnandgaon in 1999. He became the State President of Chhattisgarh for Bharatiya Janata Party. He worked for the victory of the party in the 2003 Assembly elections in the state. As the other main contender for the post of Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Dilip Singh Judeo was caught in a scam Raman Singh became the second Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.

 

He worked hard to develop the 20 point program for the development of Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes. The Statistics and Program Implementation Ministry of Government of India has assessed that the state ranks first in the implementation of the program. Due to the human development programs in Chhattisgarh, the state received the highest award from the United Nations. Raman Singh is applauded for the excellent fiscal management during his tenure.

 

With the help of Salwa Judum initiative led by Mahendra Karma, he banned the naxalite organizations in Chhattisgarh in 2005. He worked to reduce corruption in the state when he implemented the government plans and schemes that he was called as Mr Clean. It was this image that regained him the power in the state in the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections that was held in December 2008. For the second time he became the Chief Minister of the state on 12th December 2008.
