Ramalinga Reddy is a very popular politician associated with Karnataka state politics. This veteran is associated with Indian National Congress, and has served as transport minister during 18 May 2013 – 2 September 2017. A very influential politician from state politics, he has been elected to state assembly seven times. While he got elected to state assembly from Jayanagar constituency four times, the rest three wins were registered from BTM Layout constituency. Young congress leader, social activist and politician Soumya Reddy who got elected to state assembly in the bypolls held in June, 2018 is his daughter. Soumya too has joined politics, and her unexpected win has shocked BJP fraternity to great extent.

R. Ramalinga Reddy was born in Anekal of urban Bangalore city, Karnataka. His family is settled in Bangalore now. He is married to Chamundeswari Devi, and the couple has one son and one daughter. The whole family is actively involved in state politics, and is one of the most influential families in Karnataka. Ramalinga Reddy is a very influential leader among the masses, with 7-times win in state assembly elections.

Ramalinga Reddy was a corporator and businessman before he joined politics. In the winter of 1989, the young Congress politician from Lakkasandra had built up hopes of entering the state assembly and he got party ticket from Jayanagar. Reddy was faced with competition on three fronts: Janata Dal, BJP and MP Jayaraj, as independent candidate. Ramalinga Reddy won the fresh bid with a thumping margin of 17,000 votes. Since then he has never lost any elections. He shifted to the BTM Layout constituency in 2008, yet he continued with his winning streak.
