Ram Naresh Yadav Biography

Ram Naresh Yadav was a prominent politician from Uttar Pradesh, who served as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh during 23 June 1977 – 28 February 1979, after Presidential rule was brought in. He was succeeded by Banarsi Das after Yadav failed to secure a vote of confidence in state assembly. He also served as Governor of Madhya Pradesh from 2011 – 2016, for a 5-year term, just a few months before he passed away in November. He was 88. He was associated with Indian National Congress and Janata Party.

 

Ram Naresh Yadav was born on 1 July 1928 into a middle class family in Azamgarh, United Provinces in British India. His father worked as a teacher. Yadav completed his law studies and practised as a lawyer in Azamgarh court. Since young he was associated with social work, and also socialist leader Raj Narain. In 1977, he stood in parliamentary elections and got elected to Sixth Lok Sabha from Azamgarh constituency. Same year he joined state assembly in 1977, and served as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh during 23 June 1977 – 28 February 1979. He was associated with Janata Party then.

 

He later joined Indian National Congress. In 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he unsuccessfully contested from Azamgarh constituency on Indian National Congress ticket. But he lost to Bahujan Samaj Party's Ramakant Yadav. In 2011 he was appointed as Governor of Madhya Pradesh by the President of India, and he served a term of 5 years. Throughout his political journey, he kept a low profile. Though he remained an influential leader, he was alleged to be involved in Vyapam scam, the multi-crore Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board scam.
