Rajmohan Unnithan Biography

Rajmohan Unnithan is an Indian politician from the state of Kerala. He currently serves as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Kasaragod (Lok Sabha constituency) and member of Indian National Congress. He was one among the 19 UDF candidates out of 20 who successfully contested Lok Sabha elections in 2019. He defeated LDF’s K. P. Satheesh Chandran in 2019 general elections by a margin of 40438 votes. He formerly served as the spokesperson to the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee. He has also played brief roles on Malayalam big screen, mostly as politicians.

Rajmohan Unnithan was born in Kollam, Kerala on 10 June 1953. He completed his college studies from S N college, Kollam. He started his political journey with Indian National Congress. As an actor he was first seen as a politician in 2005 Suresh Gopi movie, The Tiger. Later he appeared in cameo roles in Balram V|S Tharadas, Black Dalia, Kancheepurathe Kalyanam, Kanyakumari Express and Uppukandam Brothers Back in Action. He is married to S. Sutha Kumari, and has three kids - Akhil Unnithan, Athul Unnithan and Amal Unnithan.

Unnithan was denied the Kollam Lok Sabha seat during the 2004 general elections. It was alleged that Sooranad Rajasekharan had given a hefty bribe to Mr Muraleedharan, the former KPCC president. Since then there has been personal differences between he and K. Muraleedharan.

In 2019 general elections, Rajmohan Unnithan ended 35-year old monopoly of LDF in Kasaragod Lok Sabha Constituency. Congress candidate Kadannanapally Ramakrishnan had won this constituency long back in 1971 and 1977 general elections. After that UDF has never won this constituency.  In 2014 elections, LDF candidate P. Karunakaran won the seat. After a long time, UDF won the seat by a huge margin, surprising everyone.
