Rajanikant Arole Biography 
Dr. Rajanikant Arole was a physician and social worker who received Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in 1979, and also Mother Teresa Memorial National Award for Social Justice. He was a recipient of Padma Bhushan award given by government of India, in recognition for the efforts towards the fields of social service. An angel behind Rural Health Development and known to be an international personality, he worked as a doctor in many rural areas of India. Dr Arole’s Comprehensive Health Rural Project (CRHP) played a major role behind it. His rural health’s ‘Jamkhed Pattern’ is known worldwide. Through his efforts and dedication towards work, he brought Jamkhed on World’s map.
His full name is Rajnikant Shankarrao Arole. He was born in Supa in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra State on 10 July 1934. He was born to school teachers, Shankar and Leelawati Salve Arole, and he had 6 siblings. The children were raised in a Christian atmosphere. Since young, he was inspired a lot to do public service, and he was inspired a lot by the spiritual values of the religion which he followed. He completed his MBBS from Vellore, Tamilnadu.
He along with classmate and physician Mabelle founded CRHP in the year 1970, when they were invited by the leaders of Jamkhed to provide health care in their community. As a social activist, he established Social Forum, a popular NGO network in Maharashtra which aimed to provide basic healthcare to the rural poor. He also gained worldwide recognition through his rural health ‘Jamkhed Pattern’. Through his efforts, he improved health standard of more than 300 villages across the country. He died on 25 May 2011 in Pune.
