Priyanandanan Biography

Priyanandanan is a director of Malayalam who has won National awards for best movie in the year 2007 for his movie – Pulijanmam (Birth of a leopard). He is a film and drama director from Kerala. Priyanandanan is a native of Vallachira in Thrissur District. His parents are Poochinippadam Thottipparambil Ramakrishnan and Kochammini. Apart from movie direction, he was an active stage actor and director and has worked in a few movies in brief roles as well.

 

Priyanandanan started his career as a stage actor. He used to play female roles during the early days of his career. Later he became a play director. It opened his options to movies in future. While active in drama, he was known as Priyan Vallachira at that time. He started his film career as an assistant director and has worked under popular film makers P. T. Kunju Muhammed and K. R. Mohanan. He debut Malayalam as an independent director with the movie, Neythukaran in the year 2000. This movie won many critics’ appreciation. Priyanandanan’s work was noticed and Murali won National award for best actor of this movie. The movie, Neithukaran (weaver) is the story of a weaver, a supporter of E. M. S. who dies the next day after his idol dies.

 

His second movie Puli janmam won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 2007. This movie starred Murali, Vineeth Kumar, Salim Kumar, Samvrutha Sunil and Sindhu Menon. It tells about Hindu-Muslim clashes in a village when a Muslim girl was casted to play the leading role of a traditional art form of Hindus. His third movie has also created much waves – Sufi paranja katha was based on a novel written by K. P. Ramanunni who scripted its screenplay and dialogues as well. The story is about intercaste marriage of a Hindu and Muslim and the problems caused by local Muslims, when husband builds a temple inside his home for his wife. The powerful role was played by Sharbani Mukherjee. It was one of three Indian films selected for International competition section of International Film Festival. It received 4 Kerala state awards as well.

 

His other movies are Bhakthajanangalude Sradhakku (2011) and Oru Yathrayil—-Segment: Marichavarude Kadal (2013)
