Sharbani Mukherjee Biography

Sharbani Mukherjee is a familiar face of modeling who has done ‘Ghar Aaja Soniya’ of Pakistani singer Shazia Manzoor along with Samia Soni. She is most known to be the cousin of the top actresses of Bollywood – Kajol and Rani Mukherjee. Born in Mukherjee dynasty as the daughter of Rono Mukherjee, it was not a big deal for her to enter film field. Almost all of her close relatives have been associated with film field by one way or another. Actor Joy Mukherjee was her paternal uncle. She is a relative of Kumar brothers too – Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anoop Kumar.

She started her Bollywood career in 1997 through the block buster movie ‘Border’. This movie was released in the occasion of golden jubilee celebrations of our independence day. She was paired opposite Suniel Shetty in that movie and the song ‘E jathe hue lamhom’ was pictured on her. But this movie didn’t help her to get more film opportunities. But the album song, ‘Ghar aaja soniya’ brought her to limelight.

Exactly at the same time, in the year 2000, bi-lingual movie Snehidiye/Rakkilipaatu was released in Tamil. It took a couple of years to get released in Malayalam. This Priyadarshan movie had a few peculiarities. Except a dead person for a few minutes, all actors in this movie were females. This movie told the story of two friends, played by Jyothika and Sharbani. Tabu did the negative role in this movie.

Again she did a few movies in Hindi. But all flopped at box office. But 2010 was the land mark year in Sharbani’s career. For the first time, she acted in two Malayalam movies, except dubbed movie Rakkilipaattu of 2000 – Soofi paranja katha and Athma Katha. Both movies were fabulous and got critical acclamation too. Sufi paranja katha (Story told by Soofi) is a milestone movie based on the novel written by K.P.Ramanunni. She was praised for the way she handled the role and this movie shows the intercaste marriage of a Brahmin girl and a Muslim boy and how she construct a temple inside her new home.
