Pritam Munde Biography

Pritam Munde is a young Indian politician associated with Bharatiya Janata party. She is the second daughter of late cabinet minister, Gopinath Munde, the shortest serving Cabinet minister ever in Indian history. Gopinath was a prominent politician and parliamentarian associated with BJP. Pritam got elected to parliament following the death of her father in a car accident. When his lok Sabha seat became vacant, she contested in the same seat from Beed Lok Sabha constituency and won by a huge margin of approximate 7 lakh votes.

Many of her family members have string links with politics and Bharatiya Janata Party. Her elder sister Pankaja Munde is a member of state legislature and cabinet minister who currently serves as Minister of Rural Development, Women and Child Welfare in Maharashtra. Noted politician Dhananjay Munde is a cousin of the sisters. She is a niece of late Pramod Mahajan, and a cousin to Rahul Mahajan and Poonam Mahajan.

Pritam Gopinathrao Munde was born on 17 February 1983 in Beed, Maharashtra. She is married to Gaurav Khade, and the couple has one child. She joined politics only after the death of her father in June 2014, who had just sworn in as a cabinet minister in newly formed Modi’s cabinet. Her father was a member of Maharashtra's Legislative Assembly for five terms and also the leader of opposition in the Assembly during 1992–1995.

Pritam is a Medical Practitioner by profession, and currently a Politician serving as an MP representing her hometown Beed. In fact the sisters registered wins in Lok Sabha by-elections at the same time. While her younger sister defeated her cousin Dhananjay Munde from Parli, Pritam defeated former Congress minister Ashok Patil. While the elder sister focused on state politics, Pritam decided to follow her father’s footsteps.
