Pravin Mani Biography

Pravin Mani is a playback singer and music composer associated with south Indian cinema. He works in south Indian languages - Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and also English. He composed music for Tamil-Telugu-English trilingual, Little John in 2001, and this work marked his debut as a composer. Later he predominantly worked in Tamil films, apart from doing a few Malayalam, Telugu and Indian English films. He also scored background music for a few films. Pravin has also given input for Rahman’s background scoring works like Mudhalvan and Alaipayuthey.

 

Pravin was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Currently he is settled in Toronto, Canada. Music director Pravin Mani was widely appreciated for introducing these fresh notes for his debut flick, Little John, released in multi-languages in 2001. Prior to his debut as an independent music composer, he has worked on the background score for Alaipayuthe and Alibaba and 40 Thieves, a Pentamedia film that went for the Oscars, as well as for hits such as Shakalaka Baby of Muthalvan and Jhumbala. He sang the song - O humdum suniyo re with KK, Shaan and Kunaal for Saathiya was a runaway hit. The song originally belongs to Tamil version, Alaipayuthe with which he was associated with.

 

He has also done background score for Deepa Mehta's Bollywood Hollywood as well as for Hollywood films. As a music composer, his noted works in Tamil include - A Gun & a Ring, Chikku Bukku, Payanam, Mirattal, Thoothukudi, Aadu Puli Attam, Perarasu etc. As a composer he has been quite successful in Malayalam movies. Balram vs. Tharadas, Rain Rain Come Again, Daivanamathil, By the People, Finger Print etc are among his noted Malayalam works as a music composer.
