Praveen D. Rao Biography 
Praveen D. Rao is a noted lyricist and music composer belonging to Kannada language. He is also a musician who plays a variety of music instruments including tabla, keyboard etc. Apart from movies, he has composed music for jingles, plays, ballets, albums and TV serials. Sumangali, Z, Stumble (English), Kanakambari, Chitra Vichitra, Nanage Neenu Ninage Naanu etc are some of his film compositions. “Mana Manthana” is his upcoming work. The multi-talented musician Praveen D Rao has also judged a music reality show called “Confident Star Singer” on Suvarna Karnataka in 2007 aside Guru Kiran and Nandita.
Rao is an accomplished percussionist, musician, singer and composer who works in different sectors of music including theatre and cinema. He received formal training in music from Pt. R. V. Sheshadri Gavai of Aravinda Sangeetha. He also trained in tabla from Pandit Ravindra Yavagal. Rao is a classical musician, who has worked as a percussionist and arranger in Kannada music industry for about 25 years. His sensitive creative work earned him appreciation from both critics and music lovers.
As an arranger, Rao gained appreciation for fusing Hindustani music and Carnatic music with western techniques to create an identity of his own. He has worked with acclaimed music directors of the film industry and Carnatic music like M. S. Sathyu, Lalgudi, G.Jayaraman, L.Vaidyanathan, C. Ashwath etc. He is also associated with many troupes known for their performances in India and abroad - Milap’s youth orchestras Samyo and Tarang (UK), Sampradaya Dance Company’s Vivarta, Shoonya, Taj (Canada), Threeaksha’s Prayog (USA) etc to mention a few. He composed music for many TV soaps and shows also. Some of his works for TV include Gaalipata, Ankura, Shikara, Lakumi, Gangotri etc.
