Pratap Simha Biography

Pratap Simha is an Indian journalist turned politician associated with Bharatiya Janata Party. He is a Member of Parliament from the 16th Lok Sabha, representing Mysore constituency of Karnataka. He currently serves as President of Yuva Morcha, Karnataka. He got his maiden seat of Lok Sabha, after defeating the incumbent Congress MP Adagur H. Vishwanath by nearly 32,000 votes. He is also a writer and journalist, who writes columns.

 

Pratap was born on 21 June 1976 in Sakleshpur, Karnataka. After his studies, he started his journalist career in the year 1999. He joined the Kannada-language newspaper Vijaya Karnataka as a trainee. Through his dedicated and hard work, and also talent, he rose to the positions of editor and senior editor. Bettale Jagattu was one of his early columns which attracted the public. He authored the book, Narendra Modi: Yaaru Thuliyada Haadi in 2008. He claimed that he was the person who introduced Modi to Karnataka people through his book.

 

In 2014 he decided to join BJP with a seat to Lok Sabha. Though he requested for Udupi Chikmagalur constituency, the party asked him to contest from Mysore. He resigned from Kannada Prabha to join his political journey. A journey from columnist to parliamentarian, it was so short with a time gap of just 33 days. He got elected to Lok Sabha, and currently very active in this field.

 

Simha was appointed as a member of the Press Council of India in 2015. He is known for his radical stances in the promotion of hardline Hindutva, and he currently serves as President of Yuva Morcha, Karnataka. He has also plunged himself into many controversies. His statements against actor Prakash Raj on November 2016 faced big controversies in his public life.
