Pankaj Parashar Biography

Pankaj Parashar is a director of Bollywood as well as television serials. He has also produced and directed more than 400 commercials. As a film director, his most successful movie is Chaalbaaz, remake of Hema Malini’s Sita aur Geeta where actress Sridevi reprised the role played by Hema. Jalwa is another hit movie of Pankaj. As a television director, detective series Karamchand (1985) is his most noted work. He has directed 12 movies till now. The rest are Tumko na bhool payenge, Rajkumar, Ab Ayega Mazaa, Aasmaan Se Gira, Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin, Banaras, It Was Raining That Night and Himalayaputra. Chaalbaaz still remains as his brilliant work. 

Pankaj is a gold medalist of FTII, Pune. He took Diploma in Film Direction & Screenplay Writing. In 1980, his documentary film – Malfunction won him Filmfare Award for Best Documentary. He debut Bollywood as a director in the year 1984 with the movie – Ab aayega mazaa. But it was detective series of Doordarshan, Karamchand which gained him popularity and success. A set of talented actors of movies and theatre worked in this series. Pankaj Kapoor and Sushmita Mukherjee played lead roles. He was the director to cast theater artist cum actor of parallel cinema, Naseeruddin Shah in mainstream cinema. The movie Jalwa was hit at Box office too. This movie is also remembered for the introduction of computer graphics to Indian screen for the first time. The director used this technique for showing titles. Through his next movie, Chalbaaz, actress Sridevi won Filmfare award for best actress.   

His detective series, Karamchand is still remembered for its technical aspects. In 2007, Sony TV revived this serial. He has directed over 400 television commercials since 1980’s and has won numerous awards including CAG and RAPA Awards for best TV commercial for Colgate Fluriguard and Ad Club Award for the White Eveready commercial. He has also directed more than 15 corporate documentaries. He has also conducted many art exhibitions including paintings and digital mixed–media paintings.
