P. T. A. Rahim Biography

Advocate P. T. A. Rahim is a veteran politician belonging to the minor party, National Secular Conference and serves as its state president right now. In 2016 State assembly elections he got elected as MLA from Kunnamangalam constituency of Kozhikode district. The party was formed under the leadership of Rahim in 2011, with the support of LDF. The party aims at protecting the rights of Dalits, religious minorities and other backward sections of people, and it flourished in different parts of Kerala within a short interval of time, for its unique goals and achievements.

He was born at Koduvally in Kozhikode district on 8 March 1949. His education was done at Koduvally Government LP School, Kodavally Government High school, Farooq College and Government Law College, Kozhikode. Later he became a member of Kozhikode Bar Association and practised law for several years. His political beginning marked during his college days when he became a member of Muslim Students Federation, affiliated to All India Muslim Students Federation. He later became secretary of Indian Union Muslim League Kozhikode District Committee. A popular leader of his village, he served as Panchayat President of Koduvally village for three terms or so - 1988–1993 and 1998–2006.

He left Muslim league in the early 2000s to form a new party, Muslim League(R). He was supported by LDF in the Panchayat Elections held in the year 2005. He contested in State Assembly elections for the first time in 2006 from Koduvally and defeated K. Muraleedharan of UDF. He continued his successful journey as a politician by successfully contesting from Kunnamangalam Constituency in 2011 and 2016 state assembly elections. In 2016 defeated T. Siddique of Indian National Congress by 11205 votes.
