P. Mahender Reddy Biography

P. Mahender Reddy is an Indian politician and four term MLA from Telangana state, who currently serves as Minister for Transport of the newly formed state. He serves this position since 2014 and hence the first transport minister of the state. He represents Tandur in state legislative assembly. His wife Sunitha Reddy is the current Zilla Parishad Chairperson of Ranga Reddy District, and serving her second term. His brother Narender Reddy is an MLC from Ranga Reddy District, serving his second term. Mahender Reddy is also a veterinary doctor by profession, though he is fully active in political career now.

P. Mahender Reddy was born in Hyderabad. Many of his family members are associated with politics and social service. His uncle P. Indra Reddy was a four term MLA of Andhra Pradesh, former Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh state and founder of Jai Telangana Party. His wife and brother are also involved with same field. Mahender Reddy completed his studies in Veterinary Sciences from Osmania University. He got fully involved with politics in the 1990s.

He got elected to state legislative assembly (Andhra Pradesh) for the first time in 1994 from Tandur Assembly Constituency, and he retained the seat in 1999 state assembly elections too. Later he got elected as MLA from the same constituency in 2009 and 2014 too, and thus serving his fourth term right now. He represented Telugu Desam Party since 1990s, and joined TRS before the elections of 2014. He didn’t participate in Telangana agitation, demanding separate state. He is also an educationalist and administrator who currently serves as Chairman of Patnam Mahender Reddy Memorial Educational Society, which consists of three engineering colleges in Hyderabad.
