Nilanjana Sarkar Biography

Nilanjana Sarkar is an Indian singer and radio jockey from West Bengal. She is a playback singer associated with Bengali cinema too. She won the most prestigious National award for best female playback singer for the year 2010. She won the award for the song, Bish composed by the band Kaya for the movie, Houseful. Sarkar has also rendered her voice for a few Bollywood songs; the first song for the movie, Yehi Sach Hai.

It was her debut film song, and one among the rare artists to win a national award for the debut film song. Among Bengali female artists, Shreya Ghoshal is yet another leading name who achieved the same feat back in 2002 for Bollywood film, Devdas. After Nilanjana, Iman Chakraborty joined the same group in the year 2016 winning the National award for a Bengali song.

A singer by day time and RJ by night, she has done many night shows for radio. By winning the most famed music award of the country through National film award, she shot to instant fame with her debut song itself. The award gave her a big surprise, and she was speechless when the composer Arindam gave her the happy news.

Before her exposure to films, RJ-singer was not a stranger to stage. She has been performing since childhood. She also had handy experiences singing for jingles. Yet she had to struggle a lot to reach the phase where she is right now. After winning National award, she got more offers from Bengali cinema, as well as Bollywood. Yet this talented young singer faded away from limelight soon after the shine of National awards had gone.
