N. S. Palanisamy Biography

N. S. Palanisamy was an Indian politician and former MLA from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu who represented Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He was also an agriculturist by profession, who stood with farmers always. He was affiliated to Non-political Farmers’ Association of Tamil Nadu. His son Vetri is a leading cinematographer associated with Tamil cinema, best known for his association with superstar Ajith. He is also an agriculturist and farmer, who runs an organisation for farmers named as 'Yermunai'. Palanisamy was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Kinathukadavu constituency, representing Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

 

N. S. Palanisamy was born in Tiruppur of Coimbatore district, Madras Presidency during British India in India. Sami Gounder and Samiathal were his parents and he had one sister. He married Rathinam and had two sons and one daughter. One of their sons, Vetri later went on to become a successful cinematographer of Tamil cinema. After studies, N. S. Palanisamy started his career as a lecturer. He briefly worked as English lecture in Coimbatore College. Later he gave up his job and took up farming.

 

He later joined active politics in the late 1980s, and got elected to Tamil Nadu state assembly in 1991 representing ADMK. Even while busy with politics, he never gave up farming, and also stood for the welfare of farmers of Tamil Nadu. It earned him appreciation among local people. During his life time he also served as the president of Non-political Farmers’ Association of Tamil Nadu. He was associated with agriculture after he took retirement from politics. He died on 18 May 2016 aged 73. He was suffering from kidney issues.
