Mohan Rajan Biography

Mohan Rajan is a popular and established lyricist associated with Tamil cinema. He started his film journey writing lyrics for Easan in 2010, and has been regular in the field since then. Sundarapandian, David, Kutti Puli, Tharai Thappattai, Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum, Jackson Durai and Vikram Vedha are the movies for which he penned lyrics in the past 8 years.

 

Mohan Rajan hails from Valayapatti near Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. He was born in the year 1984. He moved to Chennai in 2001 to pursue a career in film industry as a lyricist. He was not enough confident and decided to qualify himself. After several failed attempts, he decided to complete his education course and enrolled at Loyola College, Chennai to take Master’s degree in Tamil literature. He also completed media arts from the same college during his stay in the city.

 

After 9 years, he marked his debut as a lyricist in Tamil film industry in the year 2010. He was offered a lyricist’s role by James Vasanthan for the movie, Easan. He penned the lyrics for the solo track, Jilla Veettu, sung by Thanjai Selvi. The song also marked the playback singing debut of this folk singer. It won Vijay Award for best folk song that year. He also penned lyrics for “Kondaadum Manasu" from Sundarapandian (2012) for Sasikumar. Soon after, Sasikumar roped him in for Easan, the lyricist worked in all his films. Still he had to wait for some time to get a chartbuster hit.

 

Mohan Rajan's breakthrough song was "Kanave Kanave" for Vikram starrer David composed and sung by Anirudh Ravichander. In his opinion his best moment in the industry was to work with Ilaiyaraaja in his 1000th film, Tharai Thappattai, directed by Bala. Vikram Vedha, Imaikka Nodigal, Padai Veeran and Kodi Veeran are some of other noted works.
