Mausami Gurung Biography

Mausami Gurung is a popular singer and songwriter of Nepal, born in West Bengal. She is active in music industry since 2003, and associated with independent music. She is a recipient of numerous musical awards like Hits FM Music Awards, Image FM Awards and Kantipur FM. She has been awarded twice for top 10 female singers by Kantipur FM. Her released albums are Unforgettable, Pal and Mahasus. Some of her popular songs include Parelimai Chhau Ki Kaso, Chorera Lagyo, Launa lai Sake Maya, Ma Roop Hu, Sital Sital, Aaja Timi, Ma Nepali, Machhi Marana etc. In 2014 she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and she survived after the surgery.

 

Mausami Gurung was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. Barrackpur is her birthplace, and she is the daughter of Nain Singh Gurung and Chini Maya Gurung. She has 2 younger siblings, a brother and a sister. After intermediate, she studied music for 4 years. As a kid she was very shy. Yet she loved singing and participated in singing competitions right from childhood days. She was interested in dancing also. Her father is an Indian Army, and she spent most of the time in India. She did her schooling from Dehradun in an army school.

 

In 2001 she moved to Nepal. She learnt music for four years and later passed a voice test from Radio Nepal. She later worked as a teacher. She started learning music at Gandharva Sangeet Kala Kendra. Parelimai Chhau Ki Kaso and Mero Maan earned her initial recognition among Nepal music lovers. She has sung for Nepali movie - “Sapana Sapana”. She rendered her voice for 14 movies. Mausami is married to Resham Gurung.
