Manas Robin Biography

Manas Robin is an Assamese musician and filmmaker. He is one of the top musicians of Assam, who rose to prominence as a lyricist, singer, composer, music director and music producer. He is one of the most recognized faces in the North-east region, who spearheaded popularizing Assamese music including folk. In the past one decade, he has released countless chartbuster hit songs in Assamese language, and owns a celebrity status. He released his first solo album Niharika in 1995, and has 25 years of experience in this field. He has also composed music for half a dozen of Assamese movies.

 

His birth name is Manas Jyoti Gogoi, and he took the stage name of Manas Robin for his professional career. He was born on 3 December 1976 in Sivasagar, Assam as the son of Rabindra Nath Gogoi and Tilabala Dihingia. He belongs to a region dominated with folk music, and he grew up listening to it. After completing his schooling from hometown, he graduated from Jagannath Barooah College, Jorhat in the mid-1990s. Right from college days, he was into the field of music, and he released his first album, Niharika in 1995 during his college days.

 

In 1997 he released his second album, Ujan Piriti, followed by Manas Kanya and Barasha in the late 1990s. As a music composer of films, he got his first break in 1999, thus becoming one of the youngest music composers of Assamese film industry. Priya O’ Priya was his debut movie as a music composer, followed by Eyei Jonak Biheen Jiva, Kokadeutar Ghar Jowai, Ujonir Dujoni Gabhoru, Barala Sangsar, Rongmon and finally Kadambari in 2004. After that he completely switched over to folk and independent music scene.
