Manabendra Mukhopadhyay Biography 
Manabendra Mukhopadhyay was a renowned singer and music composer from Bengal. He was an exponent of Bengali modern music during three decades, beginning from 1950’s. With an innovative style and distinct voice, he came to Bengali music in the early 1950’s and completely dominated the musical world. He was equally popular as a Nazrul Geeti singer. He was proficient in handling modern, Semi Classical and Classical songs as well. His daughter Mantu is also a singer.
Manabendra was born in Kolkata on 11th August, 1949 to Atulchandra Mukhopadhay. He was attracyed to music at a younger age and excelled in singing as well as classical music. His uncles, Sidheshwar Mukherjee and Ratneswar Mukherjee inspired him a lot. Both were trained classical experts. He was trained bhajans, keerthans and devotional songs during his childhood. He released his two records - ’Phire Dekho Na’ and ‘Janina Tumi Kothay’ in association with HMV, lyrics penned by Sidheswar Mukhopadhay. ‘Champdangar Bou’ released in 1950 was the first movie as a music director. After that he has composed music for 28 movies. ‘Nabajanma’ released in 1956 marked his playback singing debut. Later he worked as a music director and singer for many movies. "Emni Kore Porbe Mone" and "Ghumayona Saheli Go" were his early hits.
He has also done a cameo in Uttam Kumar starrer film ‘Saare chuattor’, before he became a successful musician in the industry. ‘Mayamrigo’, ‘Badhu’, ‘Jato Mat Tato Path’, ‘Joy Jayanti’, ‘Godhuli Belay’ and ‘Sudur niharika’ were his noted movies as a composer. ‘Jar Hiya akasher nil nilimay’ and ‘Dukho amar Shesh kore dao probhu’ of Lalu Bhulu’,"Bandhona Torikhani", ‘Ei Ganga ei Padda’, ‘Hajar jonom dhore’, ‘Oi moushumi mon shudhu rong bodlai’, “Jaigo Oi Bajae Bashi Pran Kemon Kore" and ‘Halka megher palki’ were his notable songs as a singer.
