Maharaj Kishan Bhan Biography 
Maharaj Kishan Bhan is an Indian pediatrician and clinical scientist from Kashmir. He is currently the president of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER). Government of India honoured him with the civilian honour Padmabhushan for civil services in 2013. He is Member of the Jury for nearly all major national science awards awarded by the Government of India. He is a recipient of numerous honours and awards as well. In 1990 he was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, the highest science award in India. He developed Rota Viral Vaccine in collaboration with Bharat Biotech International.
Maharaj Kishan Bhan, shortly addressed as M. K. Bhan hails from Kashmir. He was born on 9 November 1947. He completed his medical studies (M.B.B.S) in the year 1969 from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, followed by MD from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. As a researcher and physician he is best known for his contributions towards public health issues. He conducted research works at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the areas of diarrheal diseases and child nutrition, and developed Rota Viral Vaccine in collaboration with Bharat Biotech International.
He was the Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, a position he served till 2012. He is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, who holds honorary Doctor of Science. He is a recipient of numerous honours since mid-1980s. He received ST Achar Gold Medal of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics in 1984. Pollin Prize for Pediatric Research in 2003, Genome Valley Excellence Award by BIO ASIA in 2013, Genome Valley Excellence Award — BIO ASIA in 2013 and National Ranbaxy Award in 1990 are other major honours received by him.
