B. Umadathan Biography 
Dr B Umadathan was a senior forensic expert and surgeon from Kerala, who has been credited to introducing this branch of science to Malayalis. He was a formal medical education director. He joined medical education department as a tutor in 1969, and has taught at different government medical colleges of Kerala, including Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Thrissur and Kottayam. He passed away on 3rd July 2019 at KIMS hospital Thiruvananthapuram. He spent his last years at the capital city. He has also written books and articles on crime and investigation thrillers, as well as a few of his experiences from the same.
He was born on March 12, 1946 at Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram district. He took his MBBS degree and MD from the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. After studies he started his career as a lecturer in the same profession. He joined Medical Education Department in 1969. Later he worked at different medical colleges across the state. He retired from government service in 2001. He has also closely worked with police department of Kerala, helping them in solving many murder mysteries and crimes. The post of the medico-legal advisor was created by the Kerala Police after seeing his immense talent in solving several cases.
He has worked as government medico-legal expert and consultant, medico-legal advisor of Kerala Police, and medico-legal consultant with the Libyan government. Though he was a doctor by physician, he was more interested in crime investigation, and used to share his experiences with police officers. Police Surgeonte Ormakuruppakal and Kuttanweshanathile Vaidyashastram are mong his published books. He was involved in the high profile cases of Sukumara Kurup in the late 1980s, Sister Abhaya case in the early 1990s and many more.
