Madhup Mudgal Biography 
Madhup Mudgal is a Hindustani exponent of Khayal and bhajans. He is also known as a musical conductor and composer belonging to Gwalior gharana of Hindustani music. He has served as Principal of the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Delhi since 1995. For his contributions to Indian music, Indian government honoured him with Padma Shri in the year 2006. Famous Odissi dancer Madhavi Mudgal is his sister and both his father is a Hindustani vocalist singing in Gwalior style of music who started Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in New Delhi in the year 1939. His family has contributed a lot to musical industry for more than 5 decades.
Madhup Mudgal was born in New Delhi in a musical family as the son of Vinay Chandra Maudgalya, a renowned vocalist of Hindustani music. Madhup started learning music from his father. Later he learnt music from Pandit Vasant Thakar, Pandit Jasraj and finally from renowned vocalist, Kumar Gandharva. He was brought up in a musical environment and many famous musicians frequently used to pay visit at him home for musical sittings. Started in 1939, Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, one of the earliest music schools later shifted to a new building in 1972 and is now one of the leading music schools of the country. Madhup’s education was completed at Delhi. He schooled at Modern School, New Delhi and completed graduation and post-graduation from Delhi University. He also completed his PhD by doing research in music.
Throughout years, Madhup has performed Hindustani music both in India as well as abroad. In 1995, he became the Principal of the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and many students have learnt from him. He conducts music for Gandharva Choir and also helps his sister in her Odissi dance forms by composing music.
