Leela Dube Biography 
Leela Dube, fondly called Leeladee was a renowned anthropologist and feminist scholar from India. She has also authored a few books like Anthropological Explorations in Gender: Intersecting Fields, Matriliny and Islam: religion and society in the Laccadives and Women and kinship: comparative perspectives on gender in South and South‑east Asia. She is known for her work on kinship and in women's studies. She is the wife of Shyama Charan Dube and a younger sister of the late Sumati Mutatkar. She has taught at many universities and educational institutions. She was born in 1923. She played a significant role in "Towards Equality" report of the Committee on the Status of Women in India (1974) by Government of India.
Dube’s teaching career started in 1960 at Sagar University, Madhya Pradesh. In 1975 she moved to Delhi. Her significant contribution to "Towards Equality" report of the Committee on Women in India and their social status helped a lot to bring women studies to central stage. She played a significant role in Indian Sociological Society in the 1970s and brought into notice women studies. She was a senior faculty in the Institute of Rural Management, Anand. In IRMA she pioneered a course for the first batch in 1980 - "Rural Environment". She has also served as a visiting professor of several international universities.
Dube was also associated with the Indian Council of Social Science Research and the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library. In 2009 she was given the UGC's Swami Pranavananda Saraswati Award and in 2007 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Indian Sociological Society. A few of her published books are Structures and Strategies: Women, Work, and Family (1990), Visibility and Power: Essays on Women in Society and Development and Manavashastratil Lingbhavachi Shodhamohim (last published book).
