Lalduhawma Biography

Lalduhawma is an Indian politician and former parliamentarian from the state of Mizoram. He is the founder president of Zoram Nationalist Party, a regional party based in Mizoram. He was a member of 8th Lok Sabha representing Mizoram Constituency during 1984–1989. He was associated with Indian National Congress then. He is the current leader of the Opposition of Mizoram and is the Chief of the Zoram People's Movement. He represents Serchhip at the present legislative assembly of Mizoram. He was associated with Police Service before he joined active politics.

 

He was born in Mizoram on 22 February 1949. His father’s name is Vaisanga. He is married to Sailovi, and has three children. Currently his family is settled in Chawlhhmun Veng, Aizawl. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree. He worked as PA to the Chief Minister for a term of 5 years from 1972 and then joined the Indian Police Service. He joined Indian National Congress in 1984, and also quit his government job. He was appointed as Vice Chairman of Mizoram State Planning Board then.

 

In 1984 he successfully contested Lok Sabha elections and got elected to parliament on Congress ticket. He served a term of 5 years. After that he turned more active within regional level politics. He formed Mizo National Union to be merged with Mizoram People's Conference and he became its working president. He later joined Mizo National Front as Advisory and also formed Zoram Nationalist Party, currently second largest party in state legislature serving as opposition. It won 8 seats in 2018 Mizoram Legislative Assembly election out of 40. Mizo National Front won 26 while Indian National Congress won just 5 seats losing 29.
