Lal Chand Yamla Jatt Biography 
Lal Chand Yamla Jatt, popularly known by the name, Yamla Jatt was a famous folk singer associated with Punjabi culture. His traditional turban tying style called "Turla" and soft strumming of the tumbi form of music make him a distinct Punjabi artist. One of the pioneers of Punjabi folk music in the post independent era of 20th century, Yamla Jatt has played a magnificent role in structuring contemporary Punjabi music in the music scene. He also popularized the instrument Tumbi through his performances. Did hid first recording with HMV in the year 1952, he was associated with music till his death in 1991.
He was born in Lyallpur district of present day Pakistan in the year 1914. He married Ram Rakhi in 1930 and had 7 children. He shifted to Jawahar Nagar area, Ludhiana along with his family soon after partition. He received training in vocal singing from Pandit Dyall and Chaudhry Majid. Made his first record in the year 1952, he has given some memorable songs to Punjabi folk music lovers. His most popular songs - “Whisky Di Botal Wargi", "Das Main Ki Pyar Wichon Khatya" and "Satgur Nanak Teri Leela Nyaari Ae" are still loved by many.
Regularly performed in India and abroad, he popularized Punjabi folk music in the contemporary style. He has done numerous stage shows with Alam Lohar, and they remained good friends. In 1956 he was honoured by Jawaharlal Nehru by a gold medal, for his outstanding contributions to Punjabi music. Some of his released albums include Saiyaan Da Kotha, Das Main Ki Pyar Wichon Khatya, Mittran Di Maa Marri, Charkhi Rangli Teri, Whiskey Di Botal Wargi, Tara Pave Boliyan, Satguru Nanak Teri Leela Neyaari etc. He died on December 20, 1991 in Ludhiana, Punjab.
