Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan Biography 
Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan is an Indian space scientist who served as the head of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) from 1994 to 2003. He is a recipient of the three major civilian awards from the Government of India, for his outstanding contributions towards space science and research. He was honoured with Padma Shri in 1982, followed by Padma Bhushan in 1992 and Padma Vibhushan in year 2000.
He has also served as a member of Rajya Sabha during 2003-2009 and Planning Commission of India. He has also served many administrative positions such as Director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore during 2004-2009, Chancellor of JNU and the chairman of Karnataka Knowledge Commission. He has published more than 244 papers in the areas of astronomy and related subjects.
Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan was born on 24 October 1940 in Ernakulam, Kerala. His higher studies were completed in Mumbai, where he studied graduation from Ramnarain Ruia College and Post-graduation from University of Mumbai. He received his Doctorate Degree in Experimental High Energy Astronomy in 1971. Dr. Kasturirangan is the recipient of Honorary Doctorate from 16 universities. While serving as the Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, of Space Commission and Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Space, he brought in many reforms in India’s space research.
Under his leadership, India witnessed many prestigious milestone launching and operationalization of the India's prestigious launch vehicles; Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle to mention a few. His efforts were also involved with the planetary exploration era of Chandrayaan-I. Currently he heads the committee which has been given the task to create a new education policy for India.
