Konijeti Rosaiah Biography

Konijeti Rosaiah is the current Governor of Tamil Nadu. He is a former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh also and has also served the positions of MLC, MLA and MP as a representative of Indian National Congress. His political career spans to about half century and he has handled many political positions in his long and successful career. He is one of the most influential political leaders of the state and his role as the Finance minister was widely recognized.

 
Rosaiah was born in the middle class agricultural family in Vemuru, AP on 4 July 1933 (now in Gundur district). He graduated from Guntur Hindu College, Andhra University in Commerce. It was during his college days when he entered politics and has been students’ leader. Rosaiah is a political disciple of Swatantra Party leader N. G. Ranga. He has been elected as MLC in 1968, 1974, 1980 and 2009 and as an MLA in 1989 and 2004. In 1998, he was elected as MP from Narasaraopet. During his long term political career, he maintained good relationship with Indian prime ministers since the first Prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. He has served as the President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee for a couple of years – 1995 to 1997.

He has held the cabinet positions during different terms including Cabinet Minister for Transportation and Roads and Buildings (1979), Cabinet Minister for Transportation and Housing (1980),Cabinet Minister for Home (1982), Cabinet Minister for Finance, Transportation and Electricity (1989), Cabinet Minister for Finance, Medical & Health, Education and Electricity (1990 and 1992) under two ministries and finally Cabinet Minister for Finance, Planning & Legislative Affairs under Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy from 2004. Rosaiah got the opportunity to present the state budget 16 times, including 7 times in a row which itself is a record in the country.
