Kodaganur S. Gopinath Biography 
Kodaganur S. Gopinath is an Indian physician, researcher and surgical oncologist from Bangalore. He is a recipient of the most prestigious medical honour, Dr. B. C. Roy Award apart from civilian honour Padma Shri from government of India (2010). For his research works and contributions towards the field of cancer studies, he has been facilitated by Rajoytsava Award, Association of Surgeons of India Award and Panchajanya Puraskara 2013. He currently serves as the Director of Healthcare Global Enterprise (HCG), one of the world's largest cancer care providers. He is a specialist in the treatment of breast cancer.
Dr. Kodaganur S. Gopinath hails from Bangalore. He was born in Davangere of Karnataka. He is married to Kusum, a college lecturer and the couple has two children. His son is a surgeon. He secured third rank for MBBS in 1968 and completed his medical studies in JJM Medical College, Davangere. He completed MS from King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College, Mumbai. Later he moved abroad for advanced studies and completed FAMS and FRCS (Edin) as well. Once he returned to India, he joined Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore as a surgical oncologist.
He started working on a centre for Oncology and research. In 1989 he founded Bangalore Institute of Oncology. With more than 30 years of experience in this research institute, he also serves as Director and Consultant Surgical Oncologist. Presently he is the Director of Healthcare Global Enterprise also. For his research works, he has chosen a wide range of topics like the surgery of head and neck, comparative study of laparoscopic and conventional surgical methods, cancer of the rectum and the impact of yoga on cancer.
