Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya Biography 
Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya was a folk singer and researcher from Assam. He was a recipient of "Sangeet Samman award” from the government of West Bengal for his unique creation and musical excellence in 2013. He was also a recipient of Cultural Ambassador of North East Award the same year. During his lifetime he played an important role to revive the folk music tradition of Northern and Eastern Bengal, and for this purpose he founded a music band in 1999 named Dohar. He exclusively performed folk music for nearly two decades till he passed away in 2017. When death took him in the form of a road accident, he was only 46, with so much to give to the music world.
Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya was born on 11 September 1970 at Silchar, Assam. He grew up in a musical atmosphere and learnt tabla at a young age. He also learnt different types of percussion instruments later. He also trained in vocal music, along with musical instruments. But eventually he got inclined towards the folk music of Bengal and north-eastern India. He got attracted towards the vibrant nature of folk songs and he started searching less-known and unnoticed ones.
To promote folk music, he started a music band in the late 1990s and named it as Dohar. He was the lead singer of the band. The name of the band - 'Dohar' was given by Aveek Majumdar, Professor of Jadavpur University. In a major road accident near Gurap village in Hooghly district on 7 March 2017, Bhattacharya died. 5 of its band members were also injured. The band is still continuing with its performances. The band owns many independent albums to its credit. Bhattacharya sang a few playback songs in Hindi and Bengali movies also.
