Kaderbad Ravindranath Biography

Kaderbad Ravindranath is an Indian agricultural research scientist from Nandyal of present-day Andhra Pradesh. He is also known as a cotton breeder who developed a new breed, "Narasimha"  still now used as a parent line by more than 20 leading cotton seed manufacturers in their seed hybrid programs. Lifetime Achievement Award by Cotton Research and Development Association, Dr. I.V. Subba Rao Memorial Award, Hexamar Award from All India Coordinated Cotton Improvement Project, Best Cotton Breeder Award presented by Andhra Pradesh Federation of Farmers Association and Peddireddy Thimmareddy Farm Foundation, Best Scientist Award from both Kakani Venkataratnam Farm Foundation and Bojja Venkata Reddy Agricultural Foundation are among his major awards.

 

Kaderbad Ravindranath was born in Nandyal in Madras Presidency in 1936. He was born as the son of Kaderbad Narasinga Rao, well-known freedom fighter and social reformer from Andhra Pradesh. His mother’s name is Adi Lakshamma. He completed his college education from Chennai and Hyderabad, where he specialized in Agricultural science. As a professional, he started off at the Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University Regional Agricultural Cotton Research Station in 1959 and had a long-term association with the institution till 1996. In those years, he continued with his research works and also published more than 60 scientific papers in different Indian journals on agriculture.

 

While working as a researcher and scientist at ANGRAU, he developed ten new cotton varieties of which "Narasimha" is still popular. It has been used as parent by many companies to breed good quality wheat sides. He participates in radio shows giving tips to farmers how to cultivate cotton. Since now he has conducted more than 40 training programs also. He also developed a new technique of emasculation to enhance the setting of crossed bolls up to 72% in Desi cotton.
