K. Madhu Biography

K. Madhu is a popular film director of Malayalam known for making detective films and suspense thrillers. He is better known for his association with Mammootty and screenwriter S. N. Swami to produce a series of detective thrillers, starting one with Oru CBI Diarykurippu in 1988, which created a sensation in Kerala. Through this movie, he presented Mammooty as investigation officer Sethurama Iyer and till now, has released 4 movies in this series which became huge box office hits. Sethurama Iyer is the highest grossing film series in Malayalam film industry. The successful trio is now working on their fifth installment titled, Black Investigators. The super hit movies in this series include – Jagratha (1989), Sethurama Iyer CBI (2004) and Nerariyan CBI (2005). Apart from Mammootty, Madhu has also worked with Suresh Gopi, Balachandra Menon, Mohanlal and Jayaram for a few movies for the script written by Swami.

Madhu belongs to Haripad, Kerala. He made his directorial debut in 1986 with the movie, Malarum Kiliyum which starred Mammootty in the lead role. But the movie was a box office failure. He made his second movie the same year, Ee kaikalil, which also starred Mammootty in the pivot role. But it was Mohanlal starrer Erupathaam Noottandu which shot him to instant fame. It was for the first time he got associated with S. N. Swami and later they delivered numerous suspense and action thrillers. A series of movies with Sethurama Iyer from CBI was born, apart from Moonnam Mura, Adikkurippu, Adayalam, Nariman, Oru Abhibhashakante Case Diary etc. But their 2009 venture, Rahasya Police with Jayaram in the lead role was a failure.

Madhu has also directed two Tamil movies and one Telugu. He directed Tamil movie, Maunam Sammadham in 1990 with Mammootty and Amala in lead roles. His last released movie was ‘Banking Hours 10 to 4’ which starred Anoop Menon, Meghna Raj, Shankar, Kailash and Tini Tom in lead roles. Famous Malayalam film actress Navya Nair is his niece.
