Joi Barua Biography 
Joi Barua, a singing sensation from Assam is a lead singer, musician and lead vocalist of the popular Assamese band – Joi. He has done playback singing for a few Bollywood films as well. Soundtrack of Udaan and Dev D are among his Bollywood works. He sang the track - Kuchh Hone Ko Hai of I don’t luv you aside Raman Mahadevan. As a musician he is known for mixed styles of song compositions which include - elements of rock, soul, jazz, folk and world music.
He was invited as a Fellow at the first INK Conference in 2010 and as an INK Speaker in 2011. He is also associated with numerous jingles as one of the top sought artist for vocals. His debut Assamese album was ‘Looking out of the Window’. He did a new experiment by introducing Rock Music to Assamese lyrics. He received Best Debut Award (2010) at the Big Music Awards organised by Big 92.7 FM, Guwahati for his debut released album.
Joi was born in Digboi, Assam to Ranjana Barua and Rohini Dhar Barua. His father gifted him a violin at the age of 4 and he got attached to music since then. He did his schooling from Jorhat, and participated in a singing competition at the age of 7 encouraged by her sister. Though he didn’t take formal learning in music, he won the school competition, one of his early successes in the singing field. His school principal noticed his singing talent and she made him participate in every school competition after that. So Joi considers the school principal Sister Mabilia as his first guru who encouraged him in singing and nourished his talent.
Joi has been a part of several ad campaigns and one of the most sought voices of the field. He worked as a playback singer, vocal arranger and background singer for Bollywood for many years. In June 2013, Joi and his band released an Assamese single, Pitol Soku, which was later made the official title track for the documentary, Riders of the Mist. As a composer, Joi Barua's first Bollywood movie is Margarita With A Straw, released in 2015.
