Jerry Amaldev Biography
Jerry Amaldev is a very popular music composer of Malayalam movies. He has given significant contribution to Malayalam cinema during the era of 80’s. Malayalis remember him most for the songs of Manjil viranja pookkal – The debut movie of himself, director Faazil and superstar Mohan lal in villain’s role. It was the debut movie of the leading pair of the movie – Shankar and Poornima jayaram too. His other super hit songs are included in the movies – Ennennum kannettante, Guruji Oru Vakku, Koofum thedi, Ente mamatti kuttiyammakku, Sammanasullavarkku samadhanam, Aprahnam and Nokketha Dhoorathu Kannum Nattu. He has composed around 300 songs in 70 Malayalam films and a few of them are all time chartbusters.
He won Kerala state awards for best music for his debut movie – Manjil virinja pookkal in the year 1980. All songs were immensely appreciated by public. Hit songs of the movie were sung by Yesudas and Janaki – Mizhiyoram (title track in male and female versions), Manjadi kunnil manimukilukal and Manjani kombil oru kingini kombil are still remembered for its tunes. He won Kerala state awards for the second time in 1990 for the movie Aprahnam. He shared it with Raveendran for Innale, the same year. In 1995, he won Kerala State Film Award for Best Background Music awards for critically well acclaimed movie Kazhakam. He has won critics award several times before also.
Jerry Amaldev was born as the son of V.C Joseph and Mary Joseph in Kochi in the year 1939, April 15. He completed his Bachelor of Philosophy from the Papal Athenaeum, Pune. He worked as the assistant of Naushad in Malayalam movies for a while. Then he debuted as independent music director Malayalam industry through Fazil's Manjil Virinja Pookkal in 1980 and still now, this movie is regarded as his best composition. His other popular songs are Maunagale chanchaduvan, Athapoovum Nulli, Knninu then kani, Kiliye Kiliye and Aayiram kannumai of Nokkatha doorathu kannum natt, Aalorungi arangorungi of Ente mamatti kuttiyammakku, Poovattaka thatti chinni and devadundubhi saandralayam of Ennennum kannettante, Penninte kinnaaram of Guruji Oru Vakku, Vaachalam en mounavum nin maunavum of Koofum thedi and Pavizhamalli poothulanja of Sammanasullavarkku samadhanam.
